At Elev8 Medical Aesthetics, we’ve recently had numerous clients who have come in feeling apprehensive—many of them have had less-than-ideal Botox experiences elsewhere. From the infamous “Spocking” effect to underwhelming results, I’m here to reassure you that Botox, when done correctly, can enhance your natural beauty and provide a refreshed look without the worry. I've put together a quick list of some of the most common post-treatment concerns and how our clinic ensures you leave happy, confident, and looking your best.
Spocking: What Is It and How We Avoid It
One of the most common concerns I hear from clients is fear of the dreaded "Spocking" effect, where the eyebrows are overly arched, giving a constant look of surprise. This often happens due to uneven Botox application or incorrect placement, which is why experience matters when selecting your injector. If you've had Botox before and left with raised brows that made you feel self-conscious, I understand your frustration. At Elev8 Medical Aesthetics, we take a highly personalized approach to ensure balanced, natural results every time.
Clients often come to me after experiencing Spocking at other clinics, worried it will happen again. Rest assured, I always take extra care to assess your facial anatomy and muscle movement to inject precisely, preventing this effect. We have the team, techniques and experience to ensure that your Botox softens lines without leaving you with the overly-arched look.
Under-Treating: When Results Fall Short
Another issue that frequently comes up is the feeling of "underwhelming" results. Some clients may feel that the Botox didn’t give them the full wrinkle-smoothing effect they expected. This can happen for a couple of reasons—most commonly, it’s due to a conservative approach during your first session. While it’s always better to start with a lower dose, there are times when under-dosing leaves you less than satisfied with the results.
At Elev8, we use a detailed consultation process to determine exactly how much Botox is right for you. That way, we can avoid the frustration of under-treating while still keeping you looking natural. For those who do require a little extra touch-up, we're happy to offer a complimentary touch up when needed to make sure you achieve your desired look.
We stay in touch with our clients via text, email and phone after the procedure to walk them through any questions or concerns.
Bruising and Swelling: A Common, Temporary Occurrence
Bruising and swelling at the injection site are common concerns, and while they are usually harmless, they can be an inconvenience. These effects often occur when a needle happens to hit a blood vessel, which can result in minor bruising. Swelling typically resolves within a few hours to a few days. I always recommend that clients avoid blood thinners like aspirin, ibuprofen, and alcohol for a few days before their treatment to minimize the risk of bruising. Applying an ice pack post-treatment can also help speed up recovery time.
In Kitchener-Waterloo, our clients are often busy professionals or active individuals who want to get back to their routines quickly. That’s why I always make sure to provide aftercare instructions to minimize any post-injection side effects, so you can look your best without downtime.
Asymmetry: Why Even Small Differences Matter
Facial symmetry is crucial when it comes to Botox. Sometimes, slight differences in muscle movement or injection placement can lead to uneven results. This is why choosing an injector with attention to detail is so important. At Elev8 Medical Aesthetics, we focus on ensuring symmetrical results, making any necessary adjustments during your complimentary touch-up appointment. We are proud to have some of the most experienced team of injectors in the Kitchener-Waterloo region, and we always strive for results that leave you looking refreshed and balanced.
Over-Testing Your Results? Be Patient!
One thing I always tell my clients is to be patient with your results. Botox doesn’t work instantly. It usually takes about 3-5 days to start seeing changes, with the full effect appearing around 10-14 days post-treatment. Sometimes clients test their facial movements too soon after the procedure, which can make them feel like the Botox isn’t working yet. I always advise giving the product enough time to settle in before assessing the results.
The Importance of Touch-Ups
At Elev8, we believe that getting Botox is a process. No one wants an overdone look, and we always err on the side of caution. This is why we sometimes advise clients to come back for touch-ups. Whether it’s to address an area that wasn’t fully treated or to fine-tune the effects, we offer complimentary touch-ups when it makes sense for the specific situation. This service is just one of the ways we ensure you leave our clinic feeling satisfied and confident in your appearance.
We do ask our clients to keep in mind that getting botox treatments followed by a sporadic touch-ups or treatments in between can have negative long term results. We do our best to help our clients achieve their desired results the first time.
