Medical Aesthetics: Generalists vs. Specialists and Evaluating Claims
We had a great question from a client this week!
When searching for a clinic or injector, how does a client decipher the claims of clinics as being "top performers," "top rated," "largest purchasers" or even "specialists"?
Here are a few quick tips to help understand the difference:
Do they offer 10-20+ Procedures? If a clinic or Injector offers 10, 20 or more treatments/procedures, they are likely a generalist. There's nothing wrong with this, but know that it is extremely difficult to specialize in 20+ medical procedures.
If you see something in the range of 15-20 services, it's truly difficult to be a specialist or top ranked in each and every treatment listed. It's up to the client to ask their specific injector about how many procedures they have performed for the treatment being sought. Don't be afraid to ask your injector about their experience. Each treatment has pre care, post care, potential side effects. They also require different skill sets and the injector needs to be aware of numerous things including adjusting the procedure for the clients personal situation and complexities.
Specialist Injectors, on the other hand, focus on a narrower set of procedures, typically between 1 to 5 specific treatments. This concentrated practice allows them to develop a deeper level of expertise in their chosen area. For example, a specialist might solely focus on PRP, & Injectibles, mastering the nuances of those specific procedures.
Regardless of who you choose, it's important to be able to have an open and honest dialogue with your potential injector during your consult. Starting off the relationship with your Injector/clinic is key to having a trusting long lasting relationship.
When it comes to claims of being "Specialists", it really is a case of buyer beware to determine the differences between generalists vs specialists.
